The Fellowship of Isis (FOI) was founded in 1976 by Olivia Robertson and the late Lawrence and Pamela Durdin-Robertson. As of March 2003, there were nearly 23,000 members of FOI in 98 countries (Isian News 112, Beltane 2004). It is important to note that membership in the Fellowship of Isis does not preclude allegiance to other religious paths. FOI membership includes Christians, Buddhists, Spiritualists, Hindus, and of course a large number of Neo-Pagans. The Temple of Isis (TOI) was established by Lorean Vigne, an Archpriestess of the Fellowship of Isis. TOI is a “Lyceum” of the Fellowship of Isis, which means that, in addition to providing spiritual support & fellowship, the Center also offers structured learning courses, called Magi Degree programs. There are over 250 members of TOI, including over 40 legally ordained clergy members. Membership in TOI confers membership in FOI. The Isis Invicta Military Mission began in 1998 as a “daughter mission” within the Temple of Isis. The founders, Rev. Rona Coomer-Russell & Rev. Ian MacWatt, designed the IIMM program for the express purpose of providing guidance & instruction for those who wished to serve as community leaders within the U.S. military Neo-Pagan populace. Candidates who complete the IIMM coursework are granted the title of Officiant. This program is specifically designed to fulfill DoD regulations to prepare the aspirant to function as an effective lay leader for chapel-sponsored (i.e. on-base) Neo-Pagan faith groups. After an initial 12-month term serving as an Officiant, the lay leader may apply to renew the term of service and/or may be provided with the opportunity to apply for ordination as a priest/ess of the Temple of Isis. |
It is not the goal of IIMM to churn-out as many certified lay leaders as possible to lead military Pagan groups. Our intent is to provide a service for individuals who are interested in obtaining this certification. There are only a few programs available that are specifically designed for military Pagan faith group leaders. We encourage prospective candidates to research the various programs and select one that seems to be the best “fit” for them.
Once enrolled in the IIMM program, candidates are invited to join our email list where they can interact with others who are working through the program as well as many who have completed their certifications and are actively facilitating their local faith groups.
Please see our Program page for more detailed information about the IIMM certification program and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s).
